Useful Terms

Take a moment to review these useful terms commonly used in Smartsign.

Smartsign Server

The server is the core of the system. It makes sure the right content and schedules are sent to all Smartsign Players. The server can either be used as a cloud service or be installed on a local server in your network.

Publisher

Publisher is the web interface where you control screens, users and content. The menu on the left will help you navigate throughout the interface. alt text

Smartsign Player

The player is responsible for outputting the content you schedule in the publisher. It can be a software program that you install on a computer, an app that you install on a device or a built-in chip also known as SoC, "System On Chip".

Screens

A screen refers to the display area used by the player. This is usually the entire physical display, but it can be adjusted when adding a channel in a Screen Layout.

Channels

Channels contain the bookings you create. It is possible to have multiple channels with different information. By default, the channel will play in fullscreen, but it can also be shown on different parts of a screen layout.

Screen Layout

A Screen layout consists of one or more channels that are positioned on a screen to show different information at the same time. It can for example show a clock and news information at the same time as different channel content. alt text

When using a channel in a screen layout, all bookings on this channel will affect all screens with that screen layout.

Tags/Tag folders

Tag is a keyword or user defined term assigned to a screen, channel or media item. It's a useful way to group related items together. Tag folders are used to filter the screens based on tags assigned to it.
