Manual installation

This is a guide to manually install Smartsign on a BrightSign series 5 device.

Requirements
  • A supported BrightSign device (List)
  • A BrightSign supported SD card (Reference)
  • Suitable power and display cables
  • A working Internet connection via cable or WiFi
  • Ensure you are running the correct firmware

    • Connect a screen and then power on your BrightSign device without the microSD card inserted. The device will start up and show hardware information and the currently installed firmware version on screen.
    • Check that your device is running at least the minimum supported firmware (9.0.211). If not, download and install it. You can find instructions in the FAQ.
  • Download and install the latest player package

    • Using the URLs above, download the relevant autorun.zip file and save it to the root of the microSD card.
    • Remove the microSD card from your computer, insert it to the BrightSign device and power it on. The device will automatically unpack and install the player, this will take a few minutes. Once complete the device will start up, connect to Smartsign and provide a registration code.
  • Configure display settings/portrait mode

Provision using bsn.cloud

BSN.cloud is a free service provided by BrightSign to help with deployment and remote Player management.

If you have a BrightSign device connected to BrightSign’s BSN.cloud, you can deploy the Smartsign Player application directly to your device from there.

This assumes an empty device. If you have an existing CMS solution installed to the device, it should be removed first and the device should be factory reset.

  1. Go to Admin -> Provision
  2. Select your device from the listed devices
  3. Select the drop-down menu next to the Apply Setup button and select Apply App URL
  4. Select Apply App URL, the Apply App URL dialog will appear
  5. Select App URL and input the appropriate URL from the list above
  6. Click Apply
